We saw pictures of a beautifully frozen Bald River Falls the other day and figured we might drive over on Saturday to get our own pictures. The thermometer was showing 5 degrees in the early morning and we talked ourselves out of that, but we did settle on a quick trip to Cades Cove for later in the day. We were surprised at how many people were exploring the icy waterways in the park. I think the biggest surprise for me was Marcy’s declaration that she didn’t feel cold at all. We shoot many of these same scenes every time we go, but it never seems to get old for us. There is always some new nuance of light or shadow, and the “golden hour” on this particular winter evening was about as nice as I have ever seen in the park.
