HLUHLUWE-MFOLOZI PARK GAME DRIVE

We are 8 days into our Africa adventure and today (May 7th) finds us rolling out for an early game drive in the Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park. This is the oldest game park in Africa which has its roots at the hunting preserve of Zulu Kings.

We started the day with some sprinkles and the park was shrouded in fog for a good bit of the morning, which made for some ethereal views as white rhinos and elephants emerged from the mists.

I wanted to get some pictures out, so I processed just a few representative shots from our experience. The shutter count for the day is well over 600, so it will take me a while to go through everything.

On the game drives in this park, the hope is to see the “Big Five” – rhino, elephant, zebra, cape buffalo and lion. As you can see below, we did encounter three of the five, along with other animals like antelope, impalas, and even a mongoose.
