In April 2018, the King of Swaziland decided to change the name of his country to Eswatini. The new name, eSwatini, means “land of the Swazis”… Wait, isn’t that what Swaziland means? The change was unexpected, but King Mswati has been referring to Swaziland for years as eSwatini.

Despite the change in names, pretty much everything in the country is still labeled as “Swaziland”, including the currency, the customs stamps, and even the border welcome signs.
