The sun has just dropped below the horizon along the Danube, and we enjoy the melancholy blue light of dusk. We’ve had some lovely evenings here , but last night was particularly nice. There are no particularly quaint church steeples to photograph at this instant, just a very placid scene as we pass through the Kachlet Lock just above the city of Passau. A group of our fellow passengers moved to the top deck to watch our boat clear the lock. After the gates opened and we begin moving upstream, I am left alone to experience the waning light. The days have been downright hot here in Central Europe with temperatures in the low 90’s, but with low humidity, the evenings are nice. This is summer solstice and we still have light at 10 PM on this eastern end of the Central European time zone.
