WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICA

After a long absence from travel and photography blogging, we are back on task. There has been plenty to report, and I may get to some backlogged items later, but Marcy is getting ready to display her work at an art show and we have been more than fully occupied with that effort. The issue with not posting is probably a slight case of the “perfect is the enemy of the good.” So, rather than agonize over the text of these posts, I am going to try and blast out shorter blurbs on things I find interesting.

Our adventure this year is a trip to Southern Africa. There have been some significant roadblocks that might have prevented us from coming, but we made it to Cape Town, South Africa after the final hurdle of a 30-hour journey.

We learned the hard way that on a group tour, it is a good idea to arrive a couple of days early to rest before hitting the ground, so that is what we did. Last year’s trip to Portugal found me sleeping through the first two days as the bus drove through some absolutely breath-taking scenery (So I have been told.)

It is now 10:40 PM, and I am about ready for bed, but I have downloaded today’s pictures and figured that I would pick the first eye-catching thing. I did think that the king protea (above) fit the bill.

Here you see the national flower of South Africa which we saw in a flower shop in the Cape Town waterfront. I am not sure if I have ever seen one before.

More to come, but I promised myself to publish or perish.
